The 24th annual Rainbow Classic basketball event, held on December 20, 2024, brought the Pittsford community together for a night of spirited competition, all for a great cause. This year’s event raised $31,000 in support of Golisano Children’s Hospital.
Fans filled the University of Rochester Palestra to watch the girls’ varsity teams from Mendon and Sutherland face off in the evening's opening game. Mendon emerged victorious with a 48-36 win over Sutherland.
The spirited competition continued with the boys’ varsity game, where the Sutherland Knights secured a hard-fought 55-46 victory against Mendon. During the event, the following NYSPHSAA Fall 2024 Champions were recognized: Mendon Girls Soccer, Sutherland Girls Volleyball, and Sutherland Cross Country runner Will Tempest.
Since its inception in 2001, the Rainbow Classic has raised over $600,000 for Golisano Children’s Hospital. The funds have supported numerous hospital initiatives, including the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, the Child and Adolescent Eating Disorder Program, the Teen Lounge, the Pediatric Palliative Care Program, and the Golisano Pediatric Behavioral Health and Wellness Center. This year's proceeds from the event will help fund the Mobile Care Unit which will allow Golisano Children's Hospital to go into communities to provide services when families cannot travel to the hospital. The expected launch date for the Mobile Care Unit is December 2025.
