Our visiting author/illlustrator for the 2025-2026 school year will be John Parra!  He will be visiting Allen Creek in March 2026. He will be presenting to all students in grades K-5.  Check out his website for more information about his books:  John Parra Art

Brown Bags & Books is a program designed to motivate students in grade 3 through 5 to read, while learning to appreciate and respond to literature.  Throughout the year I will share a book selection with a class of students and typically allow up to 12 students to volunteer to participate in a book group.  Students who participate have approximately one month to read the book.  The group will then meet in the library on a designated date during their lunch time to discuss the book. 

Each class will have at least two opportunities throughout the school year to participate.  The second time a class participates, priority will be given to those students who did not participate the first time.  Participation is a choice for students, not a requirement. 

Once a year, the library opens up at night for students to come and check out books with their families!  Our next Open Library night will take place in January 2026.

Books are checked out for 2 cycles at a time.  The number of books a student is allowed to borrow is based on their current grade level.

Kindergarten: One book

Grade 1:  Two books

Grade 2:  Two books

Grade 3:  Three books

Grade 4:  Four books

Grade 5:  Five books

Students are allowed to check out one new library book for each book that has been returned. 

Students can renew a book as long as nobody has put a hold it. 

Students are responsible for their borrowed materials, including returning them on time and in good condition.  If a student loses or damages a book, we do ask for it to be replaced with a new hardcover copy.  Lost or damaged books can also be paid for by check payable to Pittsford Schools or through MySchoolBucks.  Please contact Mrs. Wilson to coordinate payment.  

Students are able to put a hold on a book if it is currently checked out to another student.  This can be done in the library catalog when logged in through ClassLink or in person in the library.  

Each class comes to the library once every 6 day cycle for a lesson and book exchange.  We strive to encourage all Allen Creek students to become life-long readers and many of the library lessons focus on literature appreciation.  However, the library curriculum is much broader in scope than books alone.  Lessons focus on a variety of skills, including library proficiency, understanding information ethics, media literacy, completing an inquiry-based research process, and communicating new knowledge.
